The Last Billboard

A 36-foot-long billboard located at the corner of Highland and Baum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Every month, a different individual is invited to take over the billboard to broadcast personalized messages, which are spelt out using wooden letters that are changed by hand.

Know the fucking difference.

Feminism is a good thing. Some people (a loud minority of people really) who think they’re feminists are bordering on misandrists - that’s what gives feminism a bad name. They’re not feminists if they put down men while bringing up women. People who hate the feminist movement because it puts down men don’t hate feminism - they hate misandry.

This is actually great to know. I had such a negative look on feminists (even as a woman) and it was because of the misandrists. Not the feminists.

So thank you for sharing.

Nice to know that true feminists are more concerned about women hating men than about men hating women, the latter of which actually results in women dying from male violence.

^ They are not more concerned about women hating men than men hating women. They are equally concerned, because both of those things are major problems. Just because someone doesn’t want women to belittle men’s opinions to feel superior does not mean that they are not just as disgusted by the prevalence of violence towards women in our society as you are. These opinions are not mutually exclusive, and in fact both are very valid concerns.

Feminists have the right idea. Women and men should be equal. But if you respond to any privileged person agreeing with that assertion by dismissing their opinion, they’re going to stop agreeing with you. They’re going to start seeing feminism as misandry, and you can’t get the world to change by only allowing a select group of people into a movement.

A man has as much right to support feminism as a woman does. Some men are willing to help change society to become more equal and to give up the privilege they were born with. But if you dismiss them as people who think that only their opinion matters just because they voice it out loud, you’ll turn them on the defensive and you’ll lose the support of someone who is on your side.

You may not think you need the help of men to get feminism to be accepted as common sense, but for something to be common sense, you need to get as many people to accept it as possible. You’re not going to do that by pushing people away.

I strongly believe that Jon Richardson is Tumblr

Jon Richardson is not only hilarious, but he really seems like he’s a good person. He made a documentary about being obsessive-compulsive in which he says some very insightful, touching things. You can watch it here.
